Introduction to GEMS Charting

Updated over 6 months ago

GEMS Charting uses your entities' data around ownership to create organizational charts, letting you easily visualize your organization's ownership structure.

Through the use of color coding, sub-charting, and footnotes, charts made with GEMS Charting can quickly and clearly communicate key information about your various entities and their relationships to each other.

Components of a chart

In the images below, the key areas of an organizational chart are described.

Toolbar:

From the toolbar, found on the left side of a chart, users can export charts, zoom in and out on a chart, search a chart, adjust the layout, and open any sub-charts.

Boxes:

Charts consist of boxes containing your entity data. Special GEMS users called Charting Tool Edit Users can customize the color and shape of boxes.

Overview Panel:

The Overview Panel shows the entire chart structure and lets users move around the chart.

Sub-Charts:

Subsidiaries may be grouped into sub-charts to allow users to focus on a particular branch of the organization's structure or reduce clutter on the main chart.

if a sub-chart is available, special boxes like the ones highlighted in the image below, will indicate the subsidiaries place in the charts structure. Sub-charts can be opened via the Sub-Charts icon on the toolbar.

Footnote:

To save space and improve readability of your boxes, fields belonging to certain boxes can be moved to Footnote boxes.

The Charting Hub

Users can create charts and open previously made charts from the Charting Hub, located on the Hub Toolbar on the left side of your GEMS page.
