Specify a Nominated Holding Business Entity (Company) in a chart

Updated over 6 months ago

When creating a chart with either a Parent or Parent and Subsidiary direction, you may wish for the parent-path to go from the Chart Business Entity (Company) up to one specific parent entity rather than all parents.

GEMS calls this specific parent the Nominated Holding Business Entity and entering it can be useful in scenarios when, for example, you're only interested in how your Chart Business Entity relates to the ultimate parent company in your organization, or to any individual parent further down the chain.

We'll explore how selecting a Nominated Holding Business Entity can change your chart by looking at two example charts.

We'll look first at a Parent-direction chart without a Nominated Holding Business Entity for entity CL Support Inc. Here, we see all the parent entities for CL Support Inc. up to its ultimate parent, AM Global.

We'll next create a new chart where the parent path only shows the relationship between CL Support Inc. and SVCL Product Management using the Nominated Holding Business Entity feature.

  1. Click on the Charting Hub and select Create a Chart.

2. Search and select the entity you want the chart to start from in the Chart Business Entity field. In this example, we'll select CL Support Inc.

3. Search and select the specific parent entity you'd like the path to travel to in the Nominated Holding Business Entity field. In our example, we will select SVCL Product Management.

4. Select Parent or Parent and Subsidiary in the Chart Direction dropdown. In our example, we will select Parent.

5. Click LAUNCH CHART.

6. Your chart will open in a new browser window. On the chart, the top-level parent company is now the entity you entered in the Nominated Holding Business Entity field—in our case, that was SVCL Product Management.
