Adjust a Chart’s Layout

You can customise how a chart is displayed by selecting a different layout from the Layouts menu in the left-hand toolbar.

In this example, we'll change the layout of a Subsidiary chart for Global Solutions Inc. from the default Merged Lines layout to the Matrix layout.

Before changing the layout

The image below shows the Subsidiary chart for Global Solutions Inc. using the default Merged Lines layout.

1. Navigate to your chart and select the Layout icon on the left toolbar.

2. Select your desired Layout. In this example, we will select Matrix.

3. If you selected the Matrix Layout, the Matrix Styles dropdown lets you select different arrangements for your subsidiary boxes.

Because Matrix was selected in Step 2, additional Matrix Styles settings are available. For this example, we'll keep the style set to Balanced.

4. Select the Number of Subsidiaries that will be displayed in the Matrix layout.

5. If your Matrix chart has a complex visual structure, select Merged Lines to simplify the layout and make it easier to read.

6. After selecting a Layout, GEMS automatically redraws the chart. Close the Layout panel to view the chart's new Layout.

Compare the Matrix Layout we applied to the original Merged Lines Layout by reviewing the two images below. Click to enlarge images.
