Adjust the Advanced Options of a Chart’s Layout

Updated over 6 months ago

Several Advanced Options can be modified after you select a chart Layout:

  • Compact

  • Number of Decimal Places

  • Horizontal and Vertical Spacing

Review the images below to see what each option looks like after being applied to a chart using the Merged Lines Layout.

Compact - when enabled, staggers the boxes within a row to reduce the overall width of the chart.

A chart without the Compact option enabled:

The same chart but with Compact enabled:

Number of Decimal Places - the number of decimal places displayed within ownership percentages on the chart's lines and within the chart's boxes

A chart showing ownership percentages with the default number of decimal places:

Horizontal and Vertical Spacing - the space between boxes as measured in pixels

A chart using the default value of 30 in both the Horizontal and Vertical Spacing options:

The Horizontal Spacing cannot be adjusted if the Compact option is enabled.

Adjust a Layout's Advanced Options

In this example, we'll adjust the Advanced Options for the Layout of the chart below, a Subsidiary-direction chart for the entity Global Solutions Inc. We'll preserve its default Layout of Merged Lines, but we will also:

  • enable the Compact option to reduce the chart's width

  • change the Number of Decimal Places to 2 to reduce the length of numbers with repeating decimal values

  • adjust the Vertical Spacing to 20 to reduce the blank space between each level

1. Navigate to your chart and select Layout from the left toolbar.

2. If desired, tick the Compact checkbox to enable the Compact option.

3. Select how many decimal places you want displayed in the Number of Decimal Places dropdown. In our example, we will select 2.

4. Adjust the spacing between chart boxes using the Horizontal Spacing and Vertical Spacing sliders. In our example, we'll leave Horizontal Spacing at its default value of 30, and we'll adjust the Vertical Spacing to 20.

5. Close the Layout panel to view your changes on the chart.

Compare our updated chart with its original version now that we've modified its Advanced Options by reviewing the images below.

If at any point you wish to reset the Number of Decimal Places, Horizontal Spacing, and Vertical Spacing back to their default values, navigate to the Layout panel and click Reset Chart.
