Session Objective

By the end of this session, you will be able to build, search, and customize organizational charts using the GEMS charting tool.

  • Create Basic Org Charts

  • Search for Entities in Org Charts

  • Customize Org Charts

  • Create Sub Charts

  • Save Chart as a template


Activity 1 - Confirming Charting Tool Edit User Access

Basics page

Checkbox: Charting Tool Edit user

If it is ticked = Charting Tool Edit user

If it is not ticked = Standard user

To change access:

Click EDIT

If you are making a change here - be sure to click SAVE at the bottom


Activity 2 - Create a Chart

Create a Chart

  • Business Entity CL Support

  • Chart direction subsidiary

  • Modify the saved search

    in search properties: add jurisdiction (full name)

    in search properties: hide or delete jurisdiction code

  • Review search results

    Question: How many records are there?

  • Save your search:

    Give your search a name and save your search – “<YOUR INITIALS> Core search 9AM” (example “SV Core Search 9am”)

  • Add a search description

  • Make your search a favorite

Launch the chart

  • Search for Crystal Industries on the chart

    Question: What is the parent entity of Crystal Industries?


Activity 3 - Launch a Saved Chart

  • Launch a saved chart

    Select any one of the saved charts from the list

  • Change the date to one week ago

  • Find Business Entity CL Support

  • Find Business Entity EC Consulting

Depending on the saved chart you have chosen to launch, answer the related question below:

• Saved Chart "Core 2025" – How many subcharts are there?

• Saved Chart "Pre-core example" - How many subcharts are there?

• Saved Chart "Bermuda rule" – How many subcharts are there?

• Saved Chart "Am Global Delaware Only" – What business entity type is purple unicorn?

• Saved Chart "Whole Org Chart" – What are the subsidiaries of BISC Operations?


Activity 4 - Chart Formatting

Rules:

  1. Make all boxes hexagons

  2. Ontario jurisdiction is red, shape of your choice

Box Data:

  1. Show Jurisdiction without label

  2. Parent Interest - footnote with semi colon or new line

Box Formatting:

  1. Border color = Blue

  2. Border width = 5
