Explore the components of Capital Ownership

Updated over a week ago

When working with a Business Entity that issues equities, such as a public or private corporation, we enter its ownership information through the Capital Ownership method.

Capital Ownership lets us track the following:

  • A company's Registered Holders

  • The types of Securities the company issues

  • The Total Holdings of a Security held by the Registered Holders

  • Records of all Security Transactions

The following image shows the Stockholder/Shareholder Summary Screen, the main Screen used for tracking Capital Ownership, for a Business Entity called Stormwind Inc.

Each numbered column in the image corresponds to a component of Capital Ownership described in the accompanying table:

Registered Holder (1)

The entities here are those that hold or have held securities in the company

Security (2)

These are the types of equities issued by the company and owned by the Registered Holders. GEMS records key properties for each type of Security, such as the par value, denominational currency, and if only a certain number of shares have been authorized to be issued.

Total Holdings (3)

The values here indicate how many shares of the corresponding Security each Registered Holder currently owns. If only a certain number of a Security's shares has been authorized to be issued, the sum of these values cannot exceed the authorized number.

Transactions (4)

Click Transactions to view details of the Security Transactions involving the corresponding Registered Holder, such as the dates of issuances or how many shares were issued at a certain time.
