Re-enable a Disabled User (Admin Only)

A guide to restoring and enabling a user account whose account was locked or disabled

Updated this week

Introduction

GEMS user account can be disabled by Administrators or because the user mistyped their password too many times. Disabled accounts can be restored by Administrators on the affected user's User Details page.

Re-enable a disabled user

In this scenario, GEMS user AlexWilliamson has been disabled because she mistyped her password too many times. As a GEMS Administrator, we now wish to restore her account.

1. Navigate to the Admin Hub> GEMS Administration> User Management.

2. The User Search page opens. Click the Advanced Search section across the top.

3. Ensure your criteria in the Criteria section will return disabled users. In this scenario, we will enter a criterion to return disabled users exclusively.

4. Click SEARCH.

5. Locate and click the disabled user's username. In this scenario, we will click AlexWilliamson.

6. The User Details page opens. Click EDIT.

7. Click the Account Disabled checkbox then select OK.

8. Click SAVE.

The user's account is now re-enabled. If your GEMS database uses passwords for logging in, a new temporary password will be sent automatically to the user's email address.

Please note: If your GEMS database uses single sign-on for logging in, no email is sent after the user is re-enabled. Administrators must notify the user that their account's access has been restored.
