Changes to Foreign Qualifications Handling in GEMS

Effective July 20, 2026

Please be advised that, as part of our upcoming GEMS 12.6 release, there will be an update to how GEMS determines the current status of Foreign Qualifications and Extra Provincial Registrations.

Currently, the standard snapshot for Foreign Qualifications and Extra Provincial Registrations is based solely on the Date of Withdrawal.

Going forward, GEMS will also take into account the Date of Expiry when determining whether a record is considered current.

  • Records without a Withdrawal Date but with an Expiry Date in the past will no longer appear in the entity snapshot.

  • Current Foreign Qualification searches will continue to function as they do today. These searches return records where both the Withdrawal Date and Expiry Date are either blank or set to a future date.

As this change will directly impact day-to-day usage, we want to ensure all users are informed. Please share this update with your broader user base to help minimize any disruption.
