ARCHIVED-View, Create, and Modify Sub-Charts

A step-by-step guide to sub-charts using the GEMS Charting (Preview) tool

To view, manage, and create sub-charts, click the Sub-Charts icon to open the Sub Charts panel.


View Sub-Charts

  1. To view any sub-charts of a chart that have already been created, click the button corresponding to the name of the relevant sub-chart.

2. While viewing a sub-chart, click the Main Chart button to return to the main chart.

3. To close the Sub Charts panel, click Close icon in the top right corner of the Sub Charts panel.


Creating and Modifying Sub-Charts via the Sub-Charts Icon

Charting Tool Edit Users can create and modify sub-charts.

1. Click the Edit button on the Sub Charts panel to open the Sub Charting modal.

2. To create a sub-chart on the instance of a particular Entity in the chart, enter the Entity’s name in the “Entities” field. Multiple Entities can be entered into this field.

3. To create sub-charts based on data fields, select the desired field in the “Data field” field. For example, to create sub-charts for each “Date Acquired” value in the chart, select “Date Acquired” in the “Data field” field.

4. To create a sub-chart on the instance of a specific data value, first select the appropriate field in the “Data field” field, then select the appropriate value in the “Data value” field. For example, to create sub-charts on instances of “Apr 01 2023” in the “Date Acquired” field, select “Date Acquired” in the “Data field” field, then select “Sept 01 2023” in the “Data value” field.

5. To have the Charting Tool automatically create sub-charts based on how many subsidiaries an entity has, enter the number of subsidiaries to trigger the sub-chart in the Create a Sub Chart for each Parent that has... field.

Please note: The Auto Create Sub Charts checkbox will automatically be ticked if any value is entered into the Create a Sub Chart for Each Parent that has... field. The Sub Chart on Entities and Sub Chart on Data sections will also be made read-only and not be used. To cancel automatic sub-chart creation, untick the Auto Create Sub Charts checkbox.

6. To finish creating the sub-chart(s), click the Apply button. To cancel, click the Close button.

7. To close the Sub Charts panel, click Close icon in the top right corner of the Sub Charts panel.


Create Sub-Charts from the Data Panel

Sub-charts based on Entities can also be created from the relevant Entity box's Data panel. To create sub-chart using this method, do the following:

Please note: Only Charting Tool Edit Users can create sub-charts from the Data panel.

Click the desired Entity to open the Data panel.

Click Create Sub-Chart.

The newly created sub-chart can be viewed or modified via the Sub-Charts icon.
