How to Update the Jurisdiction, Formation Date, and State File Number for a Business Entity/Company

A step-by-step guide to updating formation data within GEMS

Updated over a year ago

Introduction

While a Business Entity's/Company's Jurisdiction, Formation Date, and State File Number are usually added when adding the entity to the GEMS database, there are times when this information needs to be updated, either to correct a mistake or to reflect new conditions. In these cases, GEMS Edit Users can update these areas via the Business Entity's/Company's Formation Screen.

Accessing the Formation Screen

To access the Formation Screen for a Business Entity/Company, navigate to the desired Business Entity/Company Snapshot, then click View More Details.

On the Navigation Menu that appears, click Formation.

Updating the "Jurisdiction," "Formation Date," and "State File #" Fields

Once on the Formation Screen, click Edit.

Locate the "Jurisdiction," "Formation Date," and "State File #" fields, update as needed, then click Save.

Please note: If any Legacy Filings for the current jurisdiction are present in the Legacy Filings Screen, the "Jurisdiction" field cannot be changed unless those Legacy Filings are deleted. Before deleting those Filings, please make a record of any information you want preserved outside of GEMS.
