Add Custom Fields (Admin Only)

Updated over 12 months ago

Introduction

Custom fields can be added to GEMS to capture data that may not fit into existing GEMS fields. These fields can be added by Administrator Users via the Screen Management of the Admin Hub.

Add a Custom Field

1. Navigate to Admin> GEMS Administration> Screen Management.

2. Locate the Screen Management list on the left side of the page and select which area of GEMS you’d like to add your custom field to. In the example below, we’ll add a custom field for Business Entities/Companies.

3. Locate the Menu list on the left side of the page and select the Screen you’d like the custom field to be added to. In the example below, we’ll add a custom field to the Basics Screen.

4. Click Go next to the Add / Modify Custom Field dropdown at the top of the page to open the Custom Field Lookup List.

5. If the custom field you would like to add is already available, select it from the Lookup List then proceed to step 12. Otherwise, proceed to step 6.

6. Click New Custom Field in the top right.

7. Enter the name of the custom field in the Name field.

8. Enter any desired help text in the Hover Help field. This text will appear when a user moves their mouse over the custom field.

9. Select the field’s type in the Type dropdown. For this example, we’ll create a List type field. For a complete breakdown of the different field types, see Custom Field Types.

10. Complete the remaining fields, which will vary depending on the type of field you selected in step 9. In our example, since we selected List for our field type, we only need to complete the List Values field, in which we’ll enter the options users will select from when they modify this field for their entities.

11. Click Save.

12. If your custom field is for Business Entities/Companies, Non-Affiliates, Persons, or Documents, a popup asking “Do you wish to add this custom field to any of the following screens ?” By default the field will only be added to those items with a jurisdiction of formation value equivalent to the Business Rules visible in the top right corner of your GEMS instance at the time of your adding the field. If you’d like it to be available for additional items with other jurisdiction of formation values, select those items now.

13. Click Save.

The custom field is now available at the bottom of the Screen selected back in step 3.
