Important Updates: ECCTA Changes to Confirmation Statements (CS01) and New CSV01 Process

Updated over 2 months ago

Under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (ECCTA), Companies House has introduced new requirements for company reporting. These changes take effect November 18, 2025, and impact how confirmation statements are filed.

Watch our quick 13 minute video on the updates on the ECCTA Compliance Updates in GEMS.

What’s Changing?

  1. Mandatory Identity Verification (IDV):

    • All directors, members, and Persons with Significant Control (PSCs) must complete identity verification.

    • Verified individuals will receive an 11-character alphanumeric Companies House ID.

    • This ID must be included in filings and workflows.

  2. New Filing Requirement – CSV01:

    • Before filing a standard confirmation statement (CS01), each company must submit a Confirmation Statement Verification (CSV01).

    • CSV01 confirms that all relevant individuals have completed IDV and their Companies House IDs are recorded.

    • After the initial CSV01 filing, future filings revert to the standard CS01 process.

Key Differences Between CS01 and CSV01

CS01

CSV01

Standard annual confirmation statement.

One-time verification statement required after Nov 18, 2025.

No ID verification details required.

Includes Companies House IDs and IDV details for directors, members, and PSCs.

Filed annually as usual.

Filed once per company before any CS01 can be submitted post-Nov 18.

How to Prepare for Filing the CSV01

After November 18

  • Submit CSV01 for each company before filing CS01.

  • Any new appointments (directors, members, PSCs) must complete ID verification before being added.

  • Continue annual CS01 filings after CSV01 is completed.

Additional Notes

Key Updates to Filing and Verification Processes

1. Identity Verification and Validation

  • All directors, members, and PSCs must have a verified Companies House ID (11-character alphanumeric).

  • The system will validate IDs during submission:

    • Errors occur if IDs are incomplete or incorrectly formatted.

    • Name mismatches must include a reason (e.g., legal name change).

2. AP01 Form Changes

  • Business occupation field removed – no longer required.

  • New checkboxes confirm:

    • Director has verified their identity.

    • Company consents to verification.

3. Creating Confirmation and Verification Statements

  • After November 18, when generating a confirmation statement:

    • The system automatically determines whether to create a CSV01 (verification statement) or a CS01 (confirmation statement).

    • CSV01 is required once per company after the switch; subsequent filings revert to CS01.

4. Relationship Between CSV01 and CS01

  • CSV01: One-time verification statement filed after November 18.

  • CS01: Standard annual confirmation statement resumes after CSV01 is accepted.

5. Additional Regulatory Changes

  • Mandatory registered office postal code for all filings.

  • Certain statutory registers must now be held at Companies House (not at the registered office).

  • Subscriber authentication details simplified:

    • Personal attributes like eye colour and town of birth are no longer required.

  • Incorporation and appointment forms updated to include Companies House ID.
